Week 14 Module

Welcome to Module Week 14

In this module, we will continue cover introduction to computers. However, we will begin to focus more on the icev program.

The objectives for the lesson will focus on discovering the different types of computers. We will also learn how computers software works,  and we will learn how to set up and maintain computers.  This will be a review of past information, along with new information.

Computers range in size and shape from super computers that take up the size of the room capable of trillions of calculations per second to laptop computers. Super computers are usually used to predict weather patterns in different locations of the world. These weather patterns can lead to the development of dangerous weather conditions, like hurricanes,  tornadoes, or floods.  Mainframes are next in line. They are often located in a centralized location. Usually a company's headquarters.  Mainframes  allow people from different locations in the country or across the world to access their information.   Desktop and laptop computers are the most common. The smallest computer is probably your smart phone. Today's cellphones are powerful, in terms of processing power than the space craft that landed man on the moon.

In this lesson, we will also review the different components of a computer. These components are random access memory, the central processing unit, and the motherboard.  We will learn about computer security and ways to keep your computer safe.

There are many types of viruses that can render a computers information useless. Take for example ransomware, which can  encrypt a user's information until a payment is received.  Spyware is software that tracks your browsing history in order to custom tailor ads  for you.

Some of the best ways to prevent viruses and hackers is to install an antivirus program  that proactively scans for viruses  and detects them. One way to prevent your computer from  being hacked is to install a firewall on your computer.
